How to Use the One Ayah a Day Reflection Refill
The One Ayah a Day Reflection Refill was created to support a slower, more intentional relationship with the Qur’an — one rooted not only in reading, but in pondering, understanding, and living the words of Allah.
This refill is designed to help you sit with one verse at a time, allowing space for reflection, learning, and practical application. It is not about how much you read, but how deeply you engage.
Why One Ayah at a Time?
The Qur’an was not revealed to be rushed through. It was revealed to be reflected upon, understood, and lived.
It is reported that the companions of the Prophet ﷺ would not move on from ten verses until they had understood them and acted upon them. They prioritised depth over speed.
Later scholars reflected that earlier generations found memorisation difficult but acting upon the Qur’an easy — while later generations may find memorisation easier, yet struggle more with application.
This refill is an invitation to return to that earlier approach: slow, reflective, and transformative.
1. Writing the Ayah
Each sheet begins with space to write the selected ayah.
You are encouraged to choose a verse that speaks to your current season — whether from daily recitation, a lecture, or personal reading. Writing the verse by hand slows the process and deepens focus.
2. Drawing and Writing the Arabic
A large, open space is provided to draw or write the Arabic of the ayah.
This space is intentionally generous — allowing you to:
-
Trace or free-write the Arabic
-
Focus on the shapes and flow of the words
-
Sit with the verse visually and physically
This is not about calligraphy skill. It is about presence and engagement.
3. English Translation
Alongside the Arabic, there is space to write the English translation of the verse.
Writing the meaning in your own time helps anchor understanding and allows you to return to the verse later without needing a reference.
4. Dating Your Reflection
Each sheet includes space to write the date of reflection.
This allows you to:
-
Track your Qur’an journey over time
-
Notice how certain verses return during different seasons
-
Look back and see how your understanding has grown
5. Tafsir and Explanation
A dedicated section is provided for tafsir and explanation.
Here, you may:
-
Summarise insights from tafsir books
-
Note reflections from lectures or lessons
-
Write explanations in your own words
You are encouraged to use trusted resources — books, classes, or scholars — to deepen your understanding.
6. Context, Lessons, and Morals
Understanding the context of a verse brings clarity and depth.
This section allows space to reflect on:
-
The circumstances of revelation (if applicable)
-
Key lessons and moral guidance
-
Broader themes the ayah addresses
This helps move beyond surface reading toward meaningful comprehension.
7. Checklist for Active Engagement
A small checklist is included to help you gently track your engagement with the ayah, such as:
-
Reading
-
Writing
-
Understanding
-
Reflecting
This is not a productivity tool — it is simply a quiet way to stay present with the verse as you move through each stage.
8. Practical Application
One of the most important sections of the refill is practical application.
This is where reflection turns into action. You may write about:
-
How this verse applies to your life right now
-
What it invites you to change, improve, or continue
-
One small action you can take based on the ayah
Even the smallest application holds great value.
9. Back Page: Personal Reflection
On the back of each refill sheet, you’ll find open space to reflect more deeply on:
-
How this ayah speaks to your current circumstances
-
Emotions or thoughts it brings up
-
Questions you want to explore further
This page is intentionally unstructured, allowing honesty and openness.
10. Du‘a and Related Verses
The refill also includes space to note du‘a and related verses.
You can:
-
Write du‘a inspired by the ayah
-
Note other verses connected in meaning
-
Use the ayah itself as a du‘a if applicable
This helps carry the verse forward into your worship and into future reflections.
A Gentle Reminder
The Qur’an was revealed to be lived, not rushed.
This refill is not about finishing pages or keeping pace. It is about allowing the words of Allah to settle into the heart — shaping understanding, action, and trust over time.
One ayah. One reflection. One step closer.
